Every year my girlfriends and I do a gift exchange. Everyone brings one gift that we put in the middle, then we do a silly game of picking and choosing until we all end up with something! This year I wanted to make someting out of felt for part of my gift. I chose mittens, since everyone can use a warm pair this time of year. I used portions of three different felted sweaters to make these:
Mitten are really easy, and there are many templates/tutorials out there if you google it. I think the easiest way is to just trace the shape of your hand onto paper-- or even on to the fabric itself-- leaving a bit of a seam allowance. (I found my thumbs to be a little snug, so be sure to leave a good allowance there.) Since I wanted my mittens to be extra warm and cozy, I made them two ply. The inside is cashmere, and the outside is wool. (I cut one a teeny bit larger that the other to allow the cashmere to fit inside.)
When I put these on, I wanted the wrists to be longer and more snug, so I cut the cuffs off a third sweater that I was using for another project:
Then I hand sewed the cuff to the inside layer:
Finally, I stuffed one inside the other, and handsewed the cuff to the top layer:
I chose a contrasting colour of thread for interest. These are super warm and cozy. I might just have to whip up a pair for myself! :)
Love these!! :)

Beautiful, Lisa! And a whole lot less time consuming than the ones I am making. I love your felting projects. I may have to try it myself!
